The MA program provides diverse options to suit your needs. You can select between research-based or coursework-focused degrees, with durations of either one year or 18 months based on your prior qualifications, across over 40 academic disciplines. Your previous studies might allow you to explore a field different from your original specialization. A research master's lets you make meaningful contributions to your chosen discipline through an extensive research project guided by New Zealand's top academics. Alternatively, a taught master's offers intensive learning in small-group settings with direct faculty engagement, culminating in a more concise research component. While our academic focus emphasizes the Asia-Pacific, we also explore regions like Latin America, Central Asia, and Africa. Recent student research has spanned locations including Samoa, Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Maldives, Taiwan, Nepal, and Peru. Faculty research and fieldwork have extended to Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Vietnam, Yemen, Niger, Benin, Tanzania, and Cuba.
