The Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) offers a comprehensive exploration of health, healthcare systems, and services within New Zealand. This program emphasizes population health, examining how socio-economic conditions and behavioral patterns influence health outcomes and service delivery. Students gain thorough insights into government roles in shaping health policies, the workings of healthcare financing, and the biological and societal roots of health challenges in communities. First-year students have the opportunity to apply for admission to clinical programs in Medicine or Pharmacy. The BHSc can also be pursued as a combined degree, complementing studies in Advanced Science, Arts, Commerce, Design, Global Studies, Law, Nursing, or Science with specialized health knowledge. Graduates find opportunities in non-clinical healthcare sectors, with demand across public, private, and nonprofit organizations. After the first year, students may transition into Medicine, Nursing, or Pharmacy programs, or pursue advanced studies in public health, health sciences, or health administration. Combining this degree with Arts, Commerce, Nursing, Law, or Science broadens professional prospects. Please note: The University of Auckland does not participate in graduate hiring and cannot ensure professional registration or job placement in New Zealand or internationally.
