For Primary education, you can select either our English or Huarahi Māori pathways. Our curriculum prepares you with essential skills for modern classrooms, emphasizing relationship-building, embracing diversity, and integrating digital learning. The program is guided by principles of equity and social justice, rooted in Te Tiriti o Waitangi values to promote fair educational outcomes. You'll study alongside diverse peers while gaining foundational te reo Māori skills. Our faculty consists of education specialists dedicated to mentoring future educators. Instruction combines in-person lectures, tutorials, workshops, and digital learning. Throughout the three-year program, you'll complete full-time practicums in various schools or kura, supported by mentor teachers and university supervisors. These experiences help you build professional networks, integrate into school communities, and develop crucial teaching competencies.

Earn a Bachelor of Education (Teaching) with a Primary or Huarahi Māori specialization to teach children aged 5-13 in New Zealand primary and intermediate schools. Graduates qualify for provisional teaching certification. The degree focuses on core courses that build expertise in the NZ curriculum and effective teaching practices. You'll gain confidence incorporating te reo Māori in classroom settings and learn strategies to support diverse learners.
