Develop specialized skills in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages through our globally recognized Faculty of Education and Social Work. The program provides essential grounding in key disciplines that shape TESOL education, including psychology, philosophy, sociology, and historical perspectives. You'll acquire contemporary expertise in instructional methods, learning processes, and evaluation techniques, with hands-on practice being a core component. This qualification benefits not only classroom teachers but also educational administrators and policy developers. Graduates will master innovative digital teaching approaches for interactive TESOL instruction, along with competencies in designing curricula, evaluating progress, and strategic program planning. The training prepares educators to work with diverse age groups, from children to adult learners. (Important: Teaching in New Zealand schools requires additional completion of a Graduate Diploma in Teaching.)
Secondary school qualifications
You need to have one of the following:
GCE ‘A’ Level requirements apply to ‘A’ Level qualifications examined by bodies such as AQA, OCR, Edexcel, WJEC, CCEA and Pearson Education Limited taken outside of New Zealand.
Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). You must have completed a minimum of three A-level subjects.
IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.0 and no bands below 5.5; Internet based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 80 and a written score of 21; Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 60 and a writing score of 21; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE), Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE): Overall score of 169 and no bands below 162; Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP): Grade of C-; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Overall score of 50 and no PTE Communicative score below 42; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 80.
