Visual communication stands as one of the most widespread design disciplines. It plays a fundamental role in shaping our daily experiences - directing, educating, convincing, and motivating us constantly. Society is experiencing a dramatic transformation in communication methods, work practices, and idea exchange. Today's technology enables unprecedented sharing through diverse formats including imagery, moving pictures, social media posts, visual data representations, and immersive encounters. Geographical, linguistic, and cultural barriers no longer limit our connections. Citizens now engage with institutions and businesses through novel channels, while these same platforms attempt to shape public opinion.
The field of visual communication design (VCD) provides remarkable breadth and adaptability. Massey's program exposes students to various media formats including printed materials, digital platforms, and motion graphics, encouraging exploration across all mediums. The VCD curriculum allows for specialization in areas such as publication layout, typeface creation, data visualization, digital interfaces, user experience development, character creation, and brand identity systems. Students develop skills to tackle sophisticated design challenges while pursuing focused expertise aligned with their personal goals.
Our program prepares graduates for professional environments that demand teamwork, technological adaptability, and versatile problem-solving capabilities.
