The School of Allied Health provides a two-year Master of Science (Professional Qualification) in Physiotherapy at Level 9 (NQAI). Students in their final year of a Level 8 Degree may apply prior to graduation, with conditional offers possible (based on GAMSAT results) pending proof of achieving at least a 2h2 in their bachelor's degree.
This CORU-approved program meets the standards of Ireland's physiotherapy registration board. Successful graduates qualify for membership with the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP).
The course was recognized as a finalist for Best New Postgraduate Course in the 2018 Grad Ireland Higher Education Awards and won Best Postgraduate Course in 2019.
Applicants in their final undergraduate year can submit applications before completing their degree, with conditional acceptance possible (contingent on GAMSAT performance) upon demonstrating a 2h2 or better result. The MSc Physiotherapy (Prof Qual) combines academic study at UL with 1,000 clinical placement hours across various locations including Limerick, Portlaoise, Kilkenny, Ballinasloe, and County Galway, spanning diverse healthcare environments (from tertiary hospitals to primary care facilities) serving patients of all ages.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants for a Master's programme must normally have a first or second class Level 8 honours degree (NFQ or other internationally recognised equivalents) or equivalent prior learning this is recognised by the University as meeting this requirement.
For EU candidates who meet this requirement, the GAMSAT (Graduate Australian Medical School Admission Test) will be used as the sole instrument to select students for this programme. GAMSAT scores are used to rank applicants and the lowest score we offer will change from year to year based on the number and scores of applicants

Where you will be asked to complete your contact information as well as education background. You will be asked to upload their transcripts, passport/ID and GAMSAT if available along with any documents you may want to be considered as part of the application process (CV, Personal Statement etc).
Qualifications are assessed using NARIC. The minimum entry requirement is a 2:2 or above. If the applicants original transcripts are in a foreign language, a certified English translation is required. In addition, where English is not the national language, proof of English language is required. Acceptable English language qualifications can be found here. Physiotherapy has higher English language requirements so a requirement if IELTS 7.5 with no less than 7.0 in any component is required.
Applicants must also satisfy the English Language Requirements* of the University. The University reserves the right to shortlist applicants as deemed necessary.
