The MSc Nursing (Perioperative Care) program is designed to help registered nurses expand their expertise in perioperative nursing through advanced knowledge and skill development. This curriculum prepares nursing professionals to take on leadership roles and provide specialized perioperative care at an advanced level.
The program's primary objective is to enable registered nurses to build upon their existing education while cultivating critical thinking, specialized competencies, and professional growth for evolving nursing responsibilities. Completing Year 1 (Graduate Diploma) qualifies graduates for Clinical Nurse Specialist positions, while Year 2 (MSc) completion meets the academic requirements for Advanced Nursing Practice roles. Students will engage with research methodologies to inform and improve clinical practice, while developing advanced critical thinking and reflective abilities. The curriculum fosters professional excellence by equipping nurses with cutting-edge knowledge and competencies to deliver and evaluate progressive healthcare practices.

Qualification Requirements

A registered nurse on the current register of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland
Be engaged in practice as a registered nurse for at least one year
Students would normally possess a primary degree (Minimum 2.2) or show evidence of recognized prior learning (RPL) as outlined in the (RPL) policy of the University and Department of Nursing and Midwifery
Students are required to be working in a perioperative setting for the duration of the programme
The MSc in Nursing (Perioperative Care) will be offered as a full-time programme but taken on a part-time basis over two years with the option of an exit award on completion of year 1 (Graduate Diploma). Students can also opt to progress to year two for the MSc award having attained a minimum QCA of 2.00 at the end of year one.
