This course is ideal for individuals who can showcase precise decision-making and assessment abilities to deliver optimal patient care. Essential qualities include working well under pressure, maintaining a composed and compassionate attitude, along with a talent for taking initiative and thinking creatively. As Ireland's pioneering university to provide an undergraduate degree in Paramedic Studies, our cutting-edge campus features advanced high-fidelity simulation technology, offering unparalleled learning experiences for aspiring paramedics.
The curriculum employs Problem-Based Learning (PBL), where students tackle carefully designed hypothetical clinical scenarios over weekly sessions. Each semester, learners are organized into small groups of seven or eight, supported by a dedicated tutor in a tech-equipped tutorial space featuring PCs, modern audiovisual tools, and whiteboard-lined walls. Under the tutor's guidance, groups systematically analyze each case, receiving new information—such as test results or medication details—only after thoroughly discussing prior stages. By Year 1, Semester 2, with foundational knowledge established, students undertake diverse clinical placements. These encompass rotations through coronary care, emergency departments, operating theaters, pediatric and maternity units, fire and rescue services, as well as experiences in learning disability support and geriatric care, forming the cornerstone of your paramedic education.
