The BSc Nursing Studies program is designed to elevate students' expertise as they advance from diploma to degree level. Delivered through adaptable and dynamic methods, this level 8 qualification caters to registered nurses from both national and international backgrounds. Building on prior learning and professional experience, this theory-focused curriculum expands students' understanding while providing a broader outlook on nursing practice. It seeks to strengthen nurses' capacity to address evolving patient and healthcare system demands within diverse local and global settings.
At the University of Limerick, we cultivate an academic atmosphere dedicated to shaping graduates who are well-informed, innovative, articulate, and adaptable. Collaborative learning between domestic and international students forms a cornerstone of both the Department's approach and the University's broader strategic vision.
Our program's foundation stems from critical examination of contemporary health challenges, the essence of nursing practice, and evolving nursing roles. The Department of Nursing and Midwifery maintains a curriculum that's dynamic, forward-thinking, and tailored to meet the requirements of both students and healthcare institutions. We equip graduates with versatile competencies essential for clinical practice while supporting continuous education through ECTS-compliant credit systems. This aligns with the Nurses and Midwives Act (2011), which positions ongoing professional development as fundamental to nursing practice.
By expanding upon existing competencies, the program promotes continuous education within an engaging academic setting. Students gain opportunities to immerse themselves in campus life while cultivating personal growth, professional capabilities, and university-level graduate qualities. Certain modules are strategically aligned with undergraduate courses to encourage collaborative learning experiences while addressing participants' specific educational needs.
