Dental Science focuses on examining the mouth and conditions affecting oral tissues. This five-year degree prepares graduates to competently provide comprehensive primary dental care, encompassing prevention, diagnosis, and management of dental and oral health issues.
The program is hosted at Dublin Dental University Hospital located within Trinity College's campus, featuring exceptional clinical resources with a strong focus on digital technology. With intentionally limited class sizes, students benefit from significant faculty guidance throughout their studies. Instruction primarily utilizes problem-based learning methods alongside substantial practical clinical experience treating patients. First-year students begin by observing clinical work, progressing to supervised patient treatment in their second year. By the final year, students should be capable of performing treatments equivalent to those in standard dental practices. Trinity's Dental Science graduates are particularly valued in the profession for the exceptional clinical training they receive during the program.
Applicants must have completed a high school qualification equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate. General matriculation requirements include pass grades in English, mathematics and a language other than English. Additional requirements may apply for some courses.
