Pursuing a degree in Public Administration and Leadership at UL provides a gateway to understanding political systems, governance, and civil society both in Ireland and globally. This program teaches you that political engagement extends beyond elected officials to include every citizen and the organizations they participate in. You'll develop skills to not just comprehend public leadership structures but to evaluate them critically. UL's approach focuses on equipping you with practical applications of knowledge rather than mere information accumulation. With its established reputation in political studies and public administration, UL maintains strong connections with various public and community organizations. The curriculum includes valuable work placements across public, private, and non-profit sectors, along with study abroad options at partner universities in countries like the Netherlands, Poland, the Czech Republic, and the United States.
The Public Administration and Leadership curriculum covers diverse subjects. First-year students explore foundational political and administrative concepts while selecting complementary electives that highlight the intricacies of public leadership. Advanced years introduce specialized coursework in public policy, international development, political economy, governance theory, community involvement, equity studies, European affairs, municipal administration, and other relevant fields through both required and elective courses.
