The Pharmacology Department runs a dynamic research initiative focused on neuropharmacology (examining drug impacts on the central nervous system), immunopharmacology (investigating pharmaceutical effects on immune responses), and cellular signaling during vertebrate growth. The department collaborates with numerous institutions worldwide, such as Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science, the Regenerative Medicine Institute, and the Network of Excellence for Functional Biomaterials at NUI Galway, along with Trinity College Dublin, the University of Nottingham, University College London, Cardiff University, Lund University, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, the University of Pennsylvania, and H/S Lundbeck in Denmark. These research projects receive financial support through various competitive funding channels.

Qualification Requirements

Candidates should normally have a high honours standard in a relevant academic discipline at primary degree level or equivalent, together with the support of an academic staff member who is approved by the College to supervise the research in terms of its nature and scope.

Additional entry requirements

Candidates may be required to submit a research proposal for consideration by the School as part of their application.

English Language Requirements

IELTS: 6.5 overall, no less than 5.5 in any one component; Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE): 176 overall; Cambridge C2 Advanced (CPE): 180 overall; TOEFL: 88 overall (7 Listening, 16 Speaking, 18 Writing, 8 Reading); Pearson PTE: 61 overall, no less than 48 in any one component.
