Key research focus areas: Microbiology research at our institution spans three primary domains:
Energy and sustainability
Microorganisms are utilized for eco-friendly energy production using renewable biomass and waste materials, including applications like microbial fuel cells and biogas generation.
Marine ecosystems: Marine microbial studies form the foundation for understanding climate change impacts, oceanic productivity, and biodiversity. Our researchers investigate microorganisms responsible for biogeochemical nutrient cycling.
Pathogenic infections: All infectious conditions originate from microbial pathogens. Current investigations concentrate on disease transmission pathways, foodborne pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, and diagnostic methods.
To be eligible to enter on a programme of study and research for the degree of PhD you must have reached a high honours standard at the examination for the primary degree or presented such evidence as will satisfy the Head of School and the College of your fitness.
