The Structured PhD program provides doctoral candidates with access to diverse interdisciplinary coursework. Students can choose from an extensive selection of modules designed to:
strengthen subject-matter expertise within their chosen field
develop research-specific competencies crucial for their dissertation work, such as foreign language acquisition
support professional growth opportunities like presenting at global academic conferences
improve career prospects through transferable skills training, including career development sessions and technology proficiency.
All candidates receive guidance from primary Supervisor(s) and a Graduate Research Committee composed of seasoned scholars who assist in designing their academic path and offer continuous research support.
The Department facilitates research supervision across broad historical specializations. Admission to research degrees requires approval from both the prospective supervisor and department head, contingent upon submission of a research proposal developed in consultation with relevant faculty members. Applicants typically need an undergraduate History degree (minimum Second Class Honours, Grade 1) and for PhD candidates, a Master's qualification is normally expected.
