The cluster is dedicated to advancing gender-related research across various topics and academic fields within the School of Political Science and Sociology. Studies in this domain explore how gendered power dynamics function, disparities based on gender, evolving concepts of gender identity, and the obstacles to women's empowerment in Ireland and internationally amid globalization. To enroll in a Women's Studies research program, applicants must submit a proposal after consulting with a potential supervisor. Typically, PhD candidates should possess a Master's degree in a related discipline, though those with equivalent qualifications or relevant experience may also apply. Through the Structured PhD program's training opportunities, students can take interdisciplinary courses. The diverse selection includes modules that: strengthen discipline-specific expertise, such as gender-focused approaches to social science research
provide dissertation-related skills crucial for completing the research project, including qualitative and quantitative methods
support professional growth, for instance, by presenting at global conferences
improve career prospects through general training, like career workshops and IT skills
Each doctoral candidate will have a primary Supervisor(s) and a Graduate Research Committee composed of seasoned researchers to guide their academic journey and offer continuous research support.
Candidates should have obtained an honours degree (Second Class Honours, Grade 1 [or equivalent international qualification] minimum).
