This program prepares students to tackle these issues by blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on learning. Instruction is provided in small groups by faculty members alongside professionals from industry and policy sectors. This ensures a real-world approach, enhanced further by internship opportunities with relevant companies or research centers in Ireland or internationally, such as through the UN Climate Change and Universities Partnership Program.
Specifically designed to enhance career readiness, the curriculum develops competencies needed to shape public policy, perform environmental assessments, manage research initiatives, pursue business or consulting roles, collaborate with international aid organizations, or advance to further academic pursuits.
The MSc in Global Environmental Economics aims to provide graduates with these key abilities:
Analyze worldwide environmental concerns through an economic lens
Assess and guide future environmental policy decisions
Master economic techniques for evaluating ecological challenges
Recognize the global connections between environmental issues and their regional variations
Develop strong communication skills across multiple platforms
Career Paths
Alumni have secured positions with international aid organizations, the European Commission, utility providers, government agencies, financial institutions, environmental investment firms, UN bodies, consulting companies, municipal governments, while others have pursued doctoral studies.

Normally a H2.1 degree (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent) with Economics. However, candidates with a significantly high H2.2 honours degree and who have achieved a 2.1 average in relevant Economics modules in a business degree, will also be considered. Students without an economic background are also encouraged to apply and will be accepted subject to successful completion of an online preparatory Economics course. These students are advised to get in touch with the course coordinator as early as possible for more details. IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent, if applicable.
English Language Requirements
IELTS: 6.5 overall, no less than 5.5 in any one component; Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE): 176 overall; Cambridge C2 Advanced (CPE): 180 overall; TOEFL: 88 overall (7 Listening, 16 Speaking, 18 Writing, 8 Reading); Pearson PTE: 61 overall, no less than 48 in any one component.
