This MSc program in Childhood Speech, Language, and Communication Needs offers an in-depth, critical understanding of children with SLCN and their life circumstances. Tailored for working professionals, the course helps practitioners stay current with evolving research while managing SLCN cases in clinical, educational, and community settings. (Important: This does not confer professional speech and language therapy qualifications.)
Our adaptable blended learning model integrates in-person workshops (typically two days per module) with online components, accommodating professionals with demanding schedules. Through coursework and practical training, you'll immediately implement new competencies in clinical, classroom, and community environments.
Upon finishing this module, participants will be able to:
Analyze how speech, language, and communication challenges affect various aspects of life at both individual and societal levels (using frameworks like ICF and Bronfenbrenner)
Examine connections between language development and academic skills like literacy and numeracy
Evaluate policies concerning disability rights, inclusion, and education frameworks (such as the New Language Curriculum and Early Childhood Curriculum Framework) as they relate to communication interventions
Assess screening techniques employed by educators, speech therapists, and psychologists to identify speech and language difficulties
Primary degree with at least Second Class Honours or an equivalent qualification.
