This master's program for nursing professionals offers an extensive and well-rounded curriculum that combines clinical relevance with solid theoretical foundations. Developed alongside the MSc in Obesity, it has been tailored specifically for nurses aiming to specialize in obesity management and is offered through University of Galway's School of Nursing. Obesity presents significant health challenges for individuals and society alike, creating increasing demand for effective treatment and prevention approaches. Our goals in creating this University of Galway program are dual-purpose: to enhance evidence-based, compassionate nursing care for patients dealing with obesity and related conditions, and to improve population-level approaches for addressing the obesity crisis.
Career Pathways
Graduates earning the Postgraduate Diploma/Masters of Health Sciences in Obesity (NFQ Level 9 qualifications) will qualify for clinical nurse specialist positions in obesity care within primary care or hospital environments, aligning with HSE's strategic objectives to establish comprehensive clinical programs for obesity management.

However, there will be special consideration for cases where applicants have demonstrated aptitude for the course material through three years of high-level experience in an obesity-related field (relevant to their background).
