This master's program is perfectly designed for graduates holding a Level 8 BE degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (or equivalent qualification) seeking to enhance their expertise for careers in industry or research focused on electrical/electronic applications. The curriculum comprises 60 ECTS credits across three key components: cutting-edge technologies in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (20-25 ECTS), professional skills for industry and research careers (15-20 ECTS), and practical technology development through an engineering project and thesis. To offer career flexibility, project options span multiple specializations: Embedded Systems Design, Signal Processing & Communications, Power Electronics & Energy Conversion, and Biomedical/Biometrics/Bio-inspired Electronics.
This intensive Level 9 program (Irish qualifications framework) meets the educational criteria for Chartered Engineer status with Engineers Ireland. Students entering with an accredited Level 8 degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering will receive Level 9 recognition. Prospective students using this ME for CEng certification (without a University of Galway BE degree) should note that accreditation considers combined undergraduate (Level 8) and graduate (Level 9) study. Applicants must verify their bachelor's degree meets Chartered Engineer standards. Program accreditation will be pursued after the first graduating cohort.

Career Prospects
Building on University of Galway's established excellence in Electrical/Electronic and Computer Engineering education, this ME program elevates engineering training to advanced levels. Since 2013, the ME degree has fulfilled educational requirements for Chartered Engineer status. Graduates will be qualified for diverse roles across Electrical/Electronic Engineering sectors, including consulting and contracting. As an accreditation-targeted program, it will carry international recognition at Level 9 under the Washington Accord.
