The Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (Emergency Care) caters to registered nurses seeking specialization in Emergency Nursing. Participants must complete clinical practice in an approved Irish healthcare facility, typically at their current workplace. Additional placements might be necessary to fulfill the program's educational objectives. Students enroll in a full-time, one-year diploma program. Upon successfully completing both academic and clinical components, graduates receive a Postgraduate Diploma, with those achieving a 60% average eligible to progress to the second year of the MSc program. This program employs blended learning, combining 12 days of in-person workshops with online instruction. A minimum of 500 clinical hours (adjusted from the original 1,000 hours per NMBI guidance) must be completed.
With its clinical emphasis, the program enhances specialized competencies through a mix of digital and classroom-based education. This flexible learning model enables professionals to balance work and studies. In-person sessions feature advanced simulation training with cutting-edge technology, expert simulation instructors, and interdisciplinary faculty. The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) grants this program its category 2 accreditation.
