Studying French at the University of Galway offers a vibrant and forward-thinking academic environment, maintaining outstanding standards in both education and scholarly work while prioritizing an outstanding learning journey for students. The Structured MA in French is a full-time one-year program (or part-time over two years) designed to help students deepen their expertise in a specific academic field through focused study and investigation. This program enables high-performing graduates to expand and enrich their understanding of their selected discipline while becoming acquainted with the research techniques and ethical considerations pertinent to French and Francophone studies.
NQAI Level 8 qualification in French with a minimum 2.1 (or North American 3.2 GPA or equivalent). For non-native speakers of French, a period of residency (a minimum of one semester) in a Francophone country is mandatory. A minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (or equivalent) is required of applicants whose first language is not English or French.
English Language Requirements
IELTS: 6.5 overall, no less than 5.5 in any one component; Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE): 176 overall; Cambridge C2 Advanced (CPE): 180 overall; TOEFL: 88 overall (7 Listening, 16 Speaking, 18 Writing, 8 Reading); Pearson PTE: 61 overall, no less than 48 in any one component.
