Addressing the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represents the most pressing global challenge of our time. The innovative MA in International Development Practice (MIDP) at University of Galway examines the complex social, economic, political and environmental issues shaping our evolving world. Covering critical global topics from sustainable development and climate initiatives to food systems and poverty reduction, this program equips students to analyze and address international development issues through both theoretical frameworks and practical applications, preparing them for professional careers with an interdisciplinary approach. Since development challenges are multifaceted, they demand integrated solutions drawing from diverse fields. The program is directed by seasoned professionals with experience in multilateral organizations, specializing in areas like human rights, policy, gender studies, migration, and field research across numerous countries.

Professional Pathways
The MA in Development Practice prepares graduates for rewarding careers within international development organizations. Opportunities exist with UN bodies (including ILO, FAO, UNICEF, IOM), global NGOs (such as Concern or Oxfam), or bilateral aid agencies. Some graduates may choose academic research paths as PhD candidates or research associates, while others might join corporations or philanthropic organizations with development-focused initiatives. By blending theoretical foundations with practical competencies (including project management, impact assessment, economic analysis, data interpretation, and statistical methods), the program prepares students for dynamic careers in international development and empowers them to contribute meaningfully to global development discourse.
