The Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development (SARD) program at UCD addresses the evolving priorities in agriculture and rural development. It reconnects with fundamental principles for rural progress, focusing on agricultural transformation while meeting contemporary societal needs like ethically sourced food, environmental conservation, and accessible renewable energy. These challenges are pertinent across Ireland, developed nations, and developing regions alike.
This program equips graduates for leadership, advocacy, and impactful roles in development contexts at local, national, and global levels. Students develop critical analytical abilities, communication expertise, and entrepreneurial skills, all supported by comprehensive knowledge of rural development theories, policies, and practical applications.

Qualification Requirements
Applicants must hold a minimum of a second class honours degree or international equivalent in a range of subject areas
Applications are welcome from people from a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds including humanities sciences and business who are interested in pursuing careers in the broad arena of rural and community development
Exceptions may be made for applicants who do not hold the minimum educational requirement if they can demonstrate substantial relevant professional or voluntary experience
Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS 6.5 no band less than 6.0 in each element or equivalent
TOEFL IBT - iBT 90 no less than 21 in writing and at least 19 in every other section in the Test of English as a Foreign Language TOEFL.
