Environmental Science is a multidisciplinary field that explores how humans interact with their surroundings, particularly focusing on the impacts of contemporary technological developments.
In today's world, comprehending our environment has become critically important, creating a rising demand for environmental scientists to address increasingly intricate challenges. The program offers comprehensive foundational science training in the initial year, then applies this understanding to present-day environmental concerns in subsequent years. Alongside studying diverse subjects, students can focus on specific areas of interest.
Career Paths
Program alumni have pursued careers with governmental organizations including the Environmental Protection Agency, Geological Survey of Ireland, National Parks and Wildlife Service, Teagasc, Regional Fisheries Boards, National Biodiversity Records Centre, and Waterways Ireland. Graduates also find employment with municipal governments, environmental consulting firms, and Rural Environment Protection Scheme Planning Agencies. The private sector and research positions offer additional career possibilities.
Minimum Grade H5 in two subjects and passes in four other subjects at O6/H7 level in the Leaving Certificate, including Irish, English, Mathematics, a laboratory science subject (i.e, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Physics with Chemistry (joint), Computer Science or Agricultural Science) and any two other subjects recognised for entry purposes.
English Language Requirements
IELTS: 6.5 overall, no less than 5.5 in any one component; Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE): 176 overall; Cambridge C2 Advanced (CPE): 180 overall; TOEFL: 88 overall (7 Listening, 16 Speaking, 18 Writing, 8 Reading); Pearson PTE: 61 overall, no less than 48 in any one component.
