Biotechnology utilizes biological processes to develop solutions that improve human lives and protect our planet. This field employs living systems to create food products, medications, and address challenges like environmental cleanup and hazard detection. With historical applications in food production - from brewing beer to cheese-making - biotechnology now plays a crucial role in Ireland's economic development through advanced techniques like genetic engineering, impacting pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture, and environmental sectors.
Our BSc Biotechnology program offers a rigorous scientific education with personalized guidance, excellent employment prospects, and global perspectives. While building expertise in contemporary biology, students also develop specialized competencies in communication, business, and foreign languages. The curriculum includes a fourth-year research project in our campus laboratories, along with potential work placements in Irish industries or European research institutions.
