The Bachelor of Arts (Joint-Honours) program features subject groupings. First-year students enrolled in GY101 select three subjects from a pool of 24 options, each belonging to one of seven distinct groups. A key rule: only one subject per group may be chosen. Upon advancing to second year, students focus on two of these subjects, continuing them through to degree completion.
This adaptable program provides numerous two-subject combinations at degree level. Beyond academic excellence, it cultivates transferable skills that prepare graduates for careers or further studies, both in Ireland and internationally. Throughout the degree, students can explore diverse subjects while developing as analytical thinkers with strong communication abilities. In First Arts, students take three subjects, then continue with two of these into Second and Final Arts.
Modern language students spend their third year abroad in a relevant language region, returning for a final fourth year to earn a BA (International). Both degree subjects continue during this overseas study. Dual language students must complete at least twelve weeks in each relevant language region - typically involving a university-arranged academic year for one language and a student-arranged summer placement for the other.

Career Prospects
Arts graduates find opportunities across commercial, social, educational, and public sectors. As the most popular undergraduate program at University of Galway and the nation's second-largest degree, Arts produces highly adaptable professionals. Their critical thinking abilities and intellectual versatility make them among the world's most employable graduates. An Arts degree delivers a distinctive blend of knowledge, analytical skills, and interpersonal competencies, preparing graduates for evolving workforce demands. Unlike narrowly specialized degrees, Arts fosters flexible, multi-skilled thinkers capable of navigating dynamic job markets. This foundation supports diverse, fulfilling career paths across numerous fields.
