The Master of Science and Graduate Diploma in Hunter-Gatherer Archaeology caters to students fascinated by the intriguing world of ancient foraging societies. It's commonly stated that humans lived as hunter-gatherers for 90-99% of our species' history. Exploring these lifestyles offers crucial insights into human identity and modern societal challenges. While anthropology sheds light on recent hunter-gatherer communities, archaeology uniquely enables us to study our foraging ancestors, making this field exceptionally significant. This program covers essential topics in prehistoric hunter-gatherer archaeology, connections between ancient and contemporary foraging societies, and modern research approaches. While focusing primarily on Homo sapiens hunter-gatherers, we'll occasionally examine other hominins, though this isn't an evolution-focused course.
