The ME in Mechanical Engineering is a two-year professional graduate program. Upon completion, graduates qualify for the Chartered Engineer (CEng) designation. Designed for mechanical engineering graduates pursuing a master's degree, this program provides advanced theoretical, conceptual, and practical training in mechanical engineering applications. A key focus is developing research skills to create new knowledge through independent and project-based learning, collaborating with UCD's academic researchers on cutting-edge projects. The program is offered by a research-intensive School ranked 151-200 in QS World Subject Rankings, Top 6 in Ireland/UK for Employer and Research rankings, and secured €9.56 million in research funding from 2014-2019.
The curriculum includes required and elective courses, a research component, and professional work experience. Students can choose advanced modules in fundamental mechanical engineering disciplines like thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, continuum mechanics, fracture mechanics, solid mechanics, dynamics, and control. Elective options cover materials engineering, nanomaterials, ceramics, metals processing, energy systems, climate change, composites, and polymers.
