The Professional Master of Education (PME) program at University College Cork is a full-time, two-year postgraduate course at level 9. This comprehensive 120-credit curriculum prepares graduates for careers as secondary school educators.

Our PME holds full accreditation from Ireland's Teaching Council, enabling graduates to register as professional post-primary teachers throughout Ireland and the European Union.

The program blends practical school placements with academic coursework, equipping future teachers with essential professional competencies. Participants explore innovative teaching methodologies, pedagogical research, and inclusive education strategies, with particular focus on curriculum development and contemporary educational challenges. The curriculum emphasizes connecting theoretical knowledge with classroom practice through reflective teaching approaches.

Aspiring educators receive guidance from mentor teachers in schools and academic support from the School of Education's expert faculty, fostering their professional growth as teachers.

Upon completion, graduates will possess the professional expertise and practical skills required to teach their chosen subjects at secondary level. The program includes hands-on experience in diverse school environments, preparing educators to adapt to the evolving needs of students aged 12-18. Throughout the course, participants critically examine educational philosophies, teaching methodologies, and the evolving role of educators in modern society.
