The LLM in Children's Rights and Family Law immerses students in both Irish and international legal frameworks concerning child and family matters. This program offers unique practical exposure through collaborations with social workers, legal experts, and other professionals in the field.
You'll collaborate with distinguished academics renowned for their groundbreaking research on legal matters affecting children and families.
Participants can engage with UCC's pioneering Child Law Clinic, contributing to real cases by assisting lawyers with research. This hands-on experience enhances advocacy for children's rights while supporting efforts to reform child protection laws.
Prospective students may alternatively enroll in a Postgraduate Diploma in Law (Children's Rights and Family Law), completing 60 credits from the LLM curriculum. This condensed program spans 9 months full-time or 18 months part-time.
This flexible option appeals to legal practitioners seeking professional development without committing to a full master's degree initially. Diploma graduates can subsequently pursue the LLM by completing a 15,000-word research dissertation.
You will also normally have:
(a) A Second Class Honours Grade I in a primary honours Law degree (NFQ, Level 8) Or
(b) Have such other relevant third-level educational qualifications and/or professional experience as, in the opinion of the School of Law, qualifies the candidate under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to undertake the LLM (Children's Rights and Family Law) Degree.
If you are an overseas candidate, you are welcome to apply and your qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis as above.
