The Higher Diploma in Arts (Italian) serves as a transition program for individuals with existing Italian proficiency, enabling them to pursue advanced studies in Italian language and culture up to honors degree standards. Applicants should possess Italian language skills comparable to those attained upon completing First Arts.

This program targets graduates seeking potential admission to master's programs in this field (without holding an Italian honors degree) or wishing to expand their qualifications with Italian studies.

Students will develop Italian language skills to BA standards while exploring Italian cultural aspects (including literature, theater, film, art, and media) spanning from Dante's era to contemporary times. The curriculum comprises 60 credits worth of modules selected from Levels II and III of the undergraduate BA in Italian program.

You'll choose subject modules in coordination with either the Head of Italian Department or the course coordinator, considering scheduling limitations and appropriate course pairings. All students must complete the mandatory 10-credit BA-level language module, with the Department assessing whether supplementary language instruction is required. Each student's study plan will be customized based on their academic background, specialization interests, and other relevant factors.

The Higher Diploma in Arts is a conversion programme and applicants would not normally have studied the relevant subject to Honours Degree level previously, but you must satisfy the Head of Department that, at the start of the course, your linguistic competence in Italian will allow you to draw benefit from courses at second-year and final-year undergraduate level.
