Zoology explores the scientific examination of animal life, encompassing every facet from anatomy and behavior to physiology and population dynamics.

As a fundamental field within biological and environmental sciences, zoology plays a crucial role in addressing pressing ecological challenges. Researchers investigate how animals influence our planet (like coral reef formation) and human society (such as parasite interactions), while also examining their vital contributions to ecosystems and food production (including pollinators and aquatic resources). With many species facing extinction threats, zoologists collect critical data to guide conservation efforts.

The curriculum covers all biological aspects of animals, ranging from microscopic organisms to complex vertebrates. At UCC, we examine diverse animal systems across marine, freshwater, and terrestrial environments, with special attention to conservation, evolutionary processes, animal health, and climate impacts. Our program emphasizes rigorous scientific training, equipping students with laboratory, analytical, and fieldwork competencies to assess scientific data and inform conservation policies.
