Ireland's pioneering BSc International Development program offers an undergraduate curriculum centered on global development studies. This program equips students with essential development knowledge while cultivating practical abilities like language proficiency, research methodologies, and project coordination. During their third year, participants can complete a five-month internship, typically with development organizations operating in Africa, Asia, or Latin America.
Students examine critical worldwide challenges through a developmental lens, exploring topics such as economic disparity, food security, environmental sustainability, humanitarian rights, conflict resolution, gender dynamics, and ecological shifts.
The degree provides fundamental preparation for careers across the international development sector, including roles with NGOs, government bodies, multinational institutions, or corporate social responsibility divisions, as well as pathways to postgraduate education. A unique program highlight involves the extended internship with development organizations in Asia, Africa, or Latin America, enabling participants to acquire field experience, refine professional competencies, and immerse themselves in diverse cultural contexts.
