The BSc in Ecology and Environmental Biology stands as Ireland's unique program in this field. Developed to address growing concerns about environmental and wildlife conservation, this program explores the relationships among animals, plants, microorganisms, and their habitats. Students examine how organisms coexist within communities and how these communities engage with their ecosystems. As Ireland's sole specialized degree in this area, it was created to meet rising demands for environmental awareness and wildlife protection.
Graduates gain comprehensive scientific understanding and hands-on training in diverse methodologies for tackling modern environmental challenges. Specifically, the program equips students with both practical fieldwork abilities and theoretical expertise essential for ecological careers, including environmental monitoring, pollution assessment, ecological impact studies, and conservation management.
The curriculum also covers laboratory methods applicable to related biological disciplines such as biochemistry, biotechnology, environmental sciences, aquaculture, fisheries, and zoology.
