Physics holds a pivotal role in science and technology, exploring fundamental questions about matter's basic components and the universe's evolution. UCC's Astrophysics program caters to individuals passionate about astronomy and cosmic physics. During their third year, students gain hands-on experience with professional telescopes overseas. The university also boasts the distinctive Crawford Observatory and a modern astronomical observation facility atop its science building. In Ireland, most active astronomers involved in research typically teach at university level. Astrophysics graduates who don't continue in research enjoy similar career prospects as physics graduates, with alumni entering diverse fields such as software development, energy research, telecommunications engineering, financial services, geophysics, and technical management.
