The Applied Plant Biology (APB) program tackles critical environmental challenges like climate change, loss of biodiversity, shrinking natural resources, and global food shortages. This field also focuses on harnessing plants to create innovative products including novel foods, medications, and renewable energy sources.
Students can join the Applied Plant Biology track through either the Biological and Chemical Sciences (CK402) or Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (CK404) programs.
APB utilizes living plants to solve environmental issues and enhance food production, while also developing valuable commodities like medicines and alternative fuels. As the foundation of all food chains, plants serve as perfect biological tools for biotechnological applications.
This discipline plays a vital role in building a greener future, whether through creating carbon-sequestering agricultural and forestry practices, cultivating more productive or nutrient-dense crops, or remediating polluted soil and water systems.
