Sociology examines society in its entirety. It provides insights into navigating challenges, both personal and communal. This field explores identity and cultural diversity, human relationships, media influence, environmental issues, legal systems, social norms, anthropology, religious traditions, artistic expressions, health matters, political structures, and economic systems. It focuses on contemporary society - its origins and the difficulties it encounters locally, nationally, and worldwide. Sociology raises important questions about shifting religious influence, Irish identity amid migration and globalization, financial instability, European political turmoil, environmental concerns, and the trajectory of Western society. This discipline offers valuable perspectives on these issues within both Irish and global frameworks. Students will acquire research techniques and practical skills including interview methods, survey design, field observations, cultural studies, textual analysis, and historical research approaches.
