The Stage Design program is carefully structured to give students the flexibility to focus on a single aspect of stage design (such as set, costume, or lighting design) or blend multiple disciplines as preferred (for instance, combining set and costume design or set and lighting design).
Alongside fundamental classes and workshops, personalized and group instruction from The Lir's Head of Design plays a central role in the training. Masterclasses led by guest professionals will further enrich the learning experience. A standout component of the program includes professional placements, and all participants will present their work in public performances at the course's conclusion. Students can choose between part-time (24 months) or full-time (12 months) enrollment options.
This program is designed to align with the MFA in Playwriting and the MFA in Theatre Directing. Participants across all three programs will collaborate, fostering a mutual understanding of modern theatre practices and a shared recognition of the effort and dedication needed to bring creative performances to life.
Candidates should have a good honours degree of upper second class or above, or equivalent qualification in a cognate area. A portfolio of recent work is also an essential part of the application process.
Proven natural ability and prior experience as demonstrated at interview will also be considered.
