The School of Dental Science employs approximately 28 full-time and 60 part-time faculty members, along with 20 research students and 60 students enrolled in taught programs. The institution operates from the Dublin Dental University Hospital (DDUH), with which it maintains strong ties. The Hospital underwent significant renovations and expansions in 1998, followed by the construction of a cutting-edge research laboratory in 2004.
Recently, the School enhanced its research capabilities, postgraduate offerings, and administrative spaces. It boasts contemporary clinical amenities and provides comprehensive postgraduate dental education, alongside pioneering continuing education initiatives for practicing dentists. Specialized training is available in Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Special Care Dentistry, and Dental Public Health, complemented by consultant training programs across various dental disciplines, as well as Masters and Ph.D. research degrees. The School also offers training for dental hygienists, nurses, and technicians, a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry for general practitioners, a Postgraduate Diploma in Conscious Sedation, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Dental Technology, in addition to practical courses for public service dentists.
Postgraduate work in Trinity College Dublin is very academically challenging and as a result the University has high academic entry requirements. Applicants will need to hold at least a 2.1 honors degree from an Irish university or equivalent result from a university in another country; a fluent command of the English language. Display a high level of competence in the English language in one of the examination systems recognised by Trinity College Dublin.
