The School of Histories and Humanities brings together the Departments of Classics, History, History of Art and Architecture, along with the Centre for Gender and Women's Studies. With 36 full-time faculty members, the School maintains a global research reputation across diverse fields such as archaeology, philosophy, ancient languages, historical periods from Classical to Modern, art history, and gender studies. Our postgraduate community includes 96 research students and 107 students enrolled in taught programs. Faculty members emphasize research-driven instruction, value student perspectives, and encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration.
The School frequently organizes international conferences and operates six prominent research seminars, creating platforms for global scholars and postgraduate researchers to share findings and discuss ideas. Additionally, the School contributes significantly to several of Ireland's premier research institutions. Eight such centers operate within the School: the Trinity Irish Art Research Centre, Trinity Medieval History Research Centre, Trinity Centre for Early Modern History, Trinity Centre for Contemporary Irish History, Trinity Centre for Irish, Scottish and Comparative Studies, Trinity Centre for War Studies, Trinity Centre for Gender and Women's Studies, and Trinity Centre for Mediterranean and Near Eastern Studies
Postgraduate work in Trinity College Dublin is very academically challenging and as a result the University has high academic entry requirements. Applicants will need to hold at least a 2.1 honors degree from an Irish university or equivalent result from a university in another country; a fluent command of the English language. Display a high level of competence in the English language in one of the examination systems recognised by Trinity College Dublin.
