The School of Engineering encompasses three key disciplines: Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering; Electronic and Electrical Engineering; and Mechanical, Manufacturing and Biomedical Engineering. It offers diverse postgraduate opportunities, including part-time and full-time Masters and Diploma programs, as well as advanced research initiatives typically culminating in a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree.
Renowned globally for its research excellence, the School secures annual research funding exceeding €6 million. This financial support enables graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to work with cutting-edge facilities in a dynamic academic setting. Qualified applicants may pursue graduate studies in the research domains listed below, with available scholarships often covering tuition fees and living expenses for both Masters and Ph.D. candidates. Presently, the School hosts over 330 postgraduate students alongside numerous postdoctoral fellows and research associates, including many international scholars from Europe and beyond.
The School has established global recognition across multiple research fields such as water engineering, structural materials analysis, digital media processing, communications systems, computational methods, energy studies, vibration and acoustics, fluid dynamics, fatigue analysis, manufacturing technologies, biomedical applications, transportation modeling, geophysical flows, climate change impacts, and geotechnical testing. Its research-driven environment features world-leading specialists, with most projects supported through partnerships with industry, European Union initiatives, and national government funding schemes.
Postgraduate work in Trinity College Dublin is very academically challenging and as a result the University has high academic entry requirements. Applicants will need to hold at least a 2.1 honors degree from an Irish university or equivalent result from a university in another country; a fluent command of the English language. Display a high level of competence in the English language in one of the examination systems recognised by Trinity College Dublin.
