The School of Natural Sciences brings together the disciplines of Botany, Geography, Geology, and Zoology, along with the Centre for the Environment, creating a world-renowned, research-focused hub of academic distinction that unites biological, physical, and social scientists.

Research Opportunities

Faculty research within the School covers four primary focus areas: Ecology and Evolution, Earth and Environmental Science, Molecular Biology and Comparative Physiology, as well as Society, Space and Environment.

Our research efforts are led by 39 principal investigators, supported by postdoctoral fellows and graduate students working across numerous vibrant research fields. Presently, we host over 140 postgraduate research students, plus an additional 50 enrolled in our one-year master's programs (Environmental Sciences, Biodiversity and Conservation, Environment and Development), along with 45 students pursuing the two-year Masters in Development Practice.

Qualification Requirements

Postgraduate work in Trinity College Dublin is very academically challenging and as a result the University has high academic entry requirements. Applicants will need to hold at least a 2.1 honors degree from an Irish university or equivalent result from a university in another country; a fluent command of the English language. Display a high level of competence in the English language in one of the examination systems recognised by Trinity College Dublin.

English Language Requirements:

  • IELTS: Grade 6.5 overall
  • TOEFL: 88 internet-based, 570 paper-based, 230 computer-based
  • University of Cambridge: Proficiency Certificate, Grade C or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2), Advanced Certificate, Grade C or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2)
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE Academic: a minimum score of 63 to be eligible (with no section score below 59)
