The Social Studies program is a specialized degree tailored for aspiring social workers who possess the necessary personal qualities and drive for this profession.
This qualification merges academic social science education with practical social work training. Upon completion, graduates qualify to register with CORU (Irish Social Work Registration Board), opening doors to diverse social work opportunities across Ireland. Registration also enables graduates to pursue careers in the UK and other international locations.
Social work focuses on assisting individuals across different circumstances and environments. Clients may include offenders (both youth and adults), families, elderly individuals, those with physical or mental health challenges, homeless populations, unemployed individuals, ethnic communities, Travellers, and people struggling with substance abuse. The fundamental goal of social work is to empower individuals to improve their quality of life within their communities through problem-solving support.
Applicants must have completed a high school qualification equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate. General matriculation requirements include pass grades in English, mathematics and a language other than English. Additional requirements may apply for some courses.
