The capacity to communicate verbally and in writing, to comprehend and acquire knowledge, and to express oneself clearly - essential skills for human connection - may be affected by numerous conditions including strokes, cerebral palsy, hearing loss, learning challenges, developmental disorders, and autism spectrum conditions. Speech and Language Therapists provide care across all age groups, evaluating, identifying, and treating various communication and swallowing issues. As these challenges impact nearly all facets of daily living, therapists employ diverse approaches and practice in multiple environments ranging from educational institutions to medical facilities and specialized clinics.
Applicants must have completed a high school qualification equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate. General matriculation requirements include pass grades in English, mathematics and a language other than English. Additional requirements may apply for some courses.
