In the past, an Electronic Engineer's expertise was primarily focused on developing hardware components for computers and consumer electronics. However, this field is constantly progressing and serves as the foundation for advancements in global information technology. These professionals invent, conceptualize, and build common gadgets such as smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles, and PCs. Notably, they are now more frequently developing systems that bridge digital decision-making processes with physical operations. Consequently, modern engineers in this discipline must also possess practical software engineering skills, as all contemporary engineering work utilizes software tools to bring concepts and prototypes to life.
Entry to Trinity College Dublin’s undergraduate programmes is highly competitive. International applicants must have completed a high school qualification equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate. General matriculation requirements include pass grades in English, mathematics and a language other than English. Additional requirements may apply for some courses.
