If you aspire to be Hollywood's next rising star and want hands-on experience in film production, this program isn't for you. Trinity's Film program emphasizes rigorous academic study, with core courses covering Hollywood's cinematic history, non-Western film traditions, European cinema perspectives, Irish film culture, and digital image theory. You'll gain foundational skills in screenwriting and film production through collaborative writers' rooms and smartphone filmmaking projects. The curriculum also includes documentary studies, culminating in creating your own short documentary. In later years, you'll expand on these fundamentals with advanced electives, maintaining an equilibrium between theoretical analysis and creative practice.
The program fosters collaboration across disciplines through shared courses and facilities. Film students actively participate in DU Film Society and contribute to the student-led Trinity Film Review. Opportunities abound for attending international festivals like Berlin and Venice, alongside organizing campus screenings and film-related events.
