Every community must determine methods for creating and allocating essential goods and services to ensure its physical sustenance. Economics examines how individuals and organizations operate when manufacturing, trading, and consuming products and services. The primary goal of economists is to develop systems that promote effective production and resource utilization while maintaining a fair income distribution aligned with societal values.
Within the School of Social Sciences and Philosophy, the Economics Department prioritizes creating an engaging and supportive educational atmosphere. Alongside lectures delivered by globally recognized faculty, the department enhances learning through accessible instructors, intimate tutorial sessions, student-led presentations, and dedicated weekly office hours for individual consultations. Students also acquire practical economic knowledge by participating in clubs, discussions, and contributing to the yearly 'Student Economic Review' publication.
Applicants must have completed a high school qualification equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate. General matriculation requirements include pass grades in English, mathematics and a language other than English. Additional requirements may apply for some courses.
