The Bachelor in Music Education program prepares students academically, artistically, and professionally for careers as post-primary music educators (including in Northern Ireland). While many graduates enter teaching, others continue their studies at Master's or doctoral levels in performance, conducting, or composition. Some also pursue postgraduate programs in media and music industry fields.
This degree is delivered collaboratively with the Technical University of Dublin Conservatoire of Music and Drama (TU Dublin Conservatoire) and, in alternating years, with the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM). The comprehensive curriculum develops students' primary instrument proficiency (including vocal performance) while building essential musical competencies like conducting, keyboard skills, and ensemble participation. Students also gain thorough training in music theory, composition techniques, orchestration, musical analysis, music history, and Irish traditional music.
