This program equips students with the knowledge and skills needed for careers in Agricultural Technology. It specifically aims to develop skilled technicians for Ireland's farm machinery sector.
The curriculum covers tractor mechanics, workshop procedures, equipment operation, electrical and electronic systems, business management, engineering principles, mathematics, technical drawing with CAD, computer applications, project work, and industry placements. Students develop both technical abilities and personal competencies through a balanced combination of technological, hands-on, academic, and managerial training. This prepares them to perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on modern equipment while remaining adaptable to emerging technologies and industry opportunities.
With significant practical components, the program includes a 30-week work placement at approved training sites such as major dealerships, contracting firms, and fabrication workshops. Students may also complete placements overseas with large harvesting or forage teams. These experiences provide essential workplace competencies for current job market demands.
The program is delivered collaboratively with Salesian Agricultural College in Pallaskenry, County Limerick. First-year students attend classes in Pallaskenry four days weekly, with one day at TUS's Moylish campus in Limerick city. Second-year students spend three days in Pallaskenry and two days at TUS Moylish.
