Social Care Work focuses on building relationships to deliver intentional care, safeguarding, emotional support, and advocacy for marginalized or disadvantaged individuals and groups with specific requirements. The profession is grounded in social justice and human rights principles, as outlined by the Social Care Workers Registration Board, CORU.
This applied field of study includes two semesters of practical placements. Social Care Workers commonly assist individuals with physical or cognitive challenges, at-risk youth, abused or neglected children, families in need, those struggling with addiction, homeless populations, and older adults. Their work spans diverse environments such as residential facilities, day programs, and community services.
The program highlights both professional growth and personal resilience needed for this demanding sector. Career prospects for graduates include roles with the HSE, TUSLA, government bodies, nonprofit organizations, and local community agencies.
